American Chair Madison, WI, United States Hi everyone! My name is Hong-En Chen. I was born and raised in Madison and graduated from University of Wisconsin - Madison in May 2014 with a degree in biochemistry. I explored a variety of activities on campus: from researching therapeutic drugs that target cancer stem cells to characterizing materials for renewable energy applications. I was involved in Energy Hub, a student organization focused on sharing ideas about energy issues. When not in lab or raising energy awareness, you can find me on the ultimate Frisbee field or teaching piano.
My first trip to Taiwan was during my junior year of high school. I spent a week riding the MRT around Taipei, eating delicious oyster pancakes from street food vendors, and snapping pictures of mopeds that lined many sidewalks. I heard about TASC from my friend Sharon, who co-founded the conference. Her stories and experiences from JASC inspired me to join the 2014 executive committee team. Planning and attending the inaugural TASC conference was incredibly rewarding. It introduced me to parts of Taiwanese culture and history that I never knew about, and I hope to bring this opportunity to more students this summer! |
