Exchange program aims to improve Taiwan-US ties
Taipei Times, 7/30/14

"'I want to bring these two countries together in a very personal way,' Alice Liao (廖品蘋), a rising junior who majors in international business and marketing at Villanova University, Pennsylvania, said in an interview via Skype yesterday.
A Taiwanese who is about to get US citizenship, Liao, a founder of the Taiwan America Student Conference (TASC), said it is an honor as well as a responsibility for her to give back to the two countries she cares about the most.
'When it comes to international relations and peace, if you have some connections to a country, whether a friend or a family, that country becomes endeared to you. It is real to you,' Liao said."

Building Bridges: An Interview with Organizers of the Taiwan-America Student Conference
TaiwaneseAmerican.org,  2/4/14

"TaiwaneseAmerican.org’s Ho Chie Tsai takes a moment to chat with some of the organizers behind a new student-oriented conference that aims to build bridges across the Pacific by bringing together young spirited leaders from the U.S. and Taiwan. Their vision is broad and meaningful: By connecting ambitious young leaders with established leaders in Taiwan, they plan to explore various contemporary issues relevant to the Taiwanese people and take steps to producing solutions that make an impact."

First-of-its-kind Student Initiative to Keep Taiwan Connected
Asia Today, 1/22/14

"Launching this summer–in the 35th year of the Taiwan Relations Act–the Taiwan-America Student Conference (TASC) is an answer to the country’s increasing political isolation. TASC is the only opportunity available for top student leaders from the United States and Taiwan to come together to hone their understanding of and brainstorm solutions to issues urgent to both countries. To explore how these issues pan out locally, students will also visit an Aboriginal Tribe Village to learn about minority issues in Taiwan, talk to local high school students to discuss education reform, meet the former director of the American Institute of Taiwan to glean valuable insights into U.S.-China-Taiwan relations–the list goes on. Student delegates will also visit Taiwan’s most beautiful attractions, such as Sun Moon Lake, to gain an appreciation for the island itself."
