Northern Site Co-Coordinator Taichung, Taiwan Hi! My name is John Li. I am a junior at Tamkung University majoring in Information Communication. I also study creative advertising and digital media production. But my dream is to become a social entrepreneur.
I was born and raised in Taichung, Taiwan. I have a little sister, and both my parents are teachers. It's no surprise that I'm very interested in issues affecting education. I think education is the best way to enhance one's thinking and problem solving ability. Not only that, it's a way to understand how the world works -- to improve one's economic ability, but to also inspire others and find one's own potential. At school, I'm an assistant at the Voice of Tamkang, a campus radio station. Through this, I've learned a lot about interviews, broadcasting, as well as technical skills like using a mixer. It's given me a lot of unique opportunities to learn about things like Taiwan's independent music, or radio dramas. Beyond that, I love to exercise -- swimming and other water activities. I'm currently in training to become a lifeguard. I hope to be a swimming coach in the future. Recently, I joined an off-campus entrepreneurship contest called Young Entrepreneurs of the Future (YEF). It's a ten-month long program that includes 200 students from different colleges and departments. During the contest, students participate in interdisciplinary work in order to develop a problem-solving business plan. I've learned a lot about teamwork and leadership from this experience. Through YEF I was also able to meet Chad Chen, a 2014 Taiwanese Executive Committee member at TASC. Coincidentally, I was also looking for opportunities to get involved with a program like TASC. I can’t wait to meet the 2015 TASC delegates. I'm especially looking forward to Roundtable discussions, and I hope I can help lead others to understand Taiwan's culture through TASC. |
